Rape survivor launches book to empower sexual assault victims

Michelle Sleight

THE survivor of 6 rapes and one sexual assault over 20 years will launch her new book during Women’s History Month at The State Library of NSW on March 13 2021.

Brisbane mother of two, Michelle Sleight, has written her book: Insight – Up Close and Personal Profile of Sexual Assault to bust the myths about rape, and make a stand for cultural change.

This timely book is coming out when the news is full of headlines about sexual assault being rife in private schools, and in the hallowed halls of Parliament House in Canberra.

“My passion is to share my knowledge to enable people to transcend the experience of being raped and live as an authentic empowered survivor. Together we can re-write rape culture” says Mrs Sleight.

The book outlines strategies to help female rape victims become empowered in their lives and relationships.

At the launch, Mrs Sleight will speak about her part in setting a 1997 NSW legal precedent around sexual assault and in 2010 stopped a rapist in his tracks.

“I will speak openly from a unique perspective about what it’s like to be raped for a victim. I will share my struggles and addictions, talk about how our systems and thinking make it impossible for many to make it back from hell to happiness and creates the gagging of those in the front line. I will discuss the grey areas allowing sexual predators to thrive and get away with rape,” she said.

The aim of the book is to empower and educate communities to better understand and identify sexual predators and respond in a more resourceful way to sexual assault trauma.

A certified registered coach and trauma specialist, Michelle shares her understanding, processes and knowledge that set her and her clients permanently free of trauma.

Insight – Up Close and Personal Profile of Sexual Assault will be launched at The State Library of NSW on March 13 at 2pm.
